In this episode, Nathan, Brad and Josh settle the debate about fair trade coffee and compare it to ethical sourcing. Josh and Brad share their expertise about how both the farmer and the consumer can be mislead by the concept of not-so-fair trade.
“From the beginning, It’s been part of our goal and part of the way that we do business is to make sure that we’re working with people who are supporting farmers directly, make sure they are getting a fair price for what their getting, make sure their standard of living is equal to the country their living in or even better.” - Brad
“Our society and culture is changing rapidly, but I still believe that character counts and we as a business believe that our ethical values cannot be compromised. We want to be open and honest; treat people fairly. Give our farmers the best lives they can have. We believe that’s what we’re called to do, because we don’t just live in our little bubble, in our little culture, in our little society here in the United States. But we live in a world where we interact now. We can talk to people and have business relationships with people all over the world and we want to treat them fairly and let them have the opportunity to have the best lives they can have. That’s what we believe in at Baba Java and we will practice that as long as we are a company; long as I have anything to do with it.” - Nathan
