  • about our rest-s2e60 Cogitations
During this time of great weariness when it seems so difficult to do the work of Christ it might be helpful to have a reminder of our rest. Take a listen to this episode and let me know what you think. If you like what we do and want to help out, www.patreon.com/nearchurches

  • about compassion-s2e59 Cogitations
This episode came about from a comment I saw on Facebook. It was such a good comment and stated something I have been teaching and saying for years. We should not be as focused as we seem to be sometimes on refutation of error. We should, rather, focus on teaching the truth and let the truth of God's Word illuminate those in the darkness of error to the point where the error is no longer a problem. Here is the comment:
"In our increasingly biblically illiterate culture (church and secular), perhaps it would often be of greater value to teach biblical truths than it would be to to condemn “beliefs” long since practically removed from any real association with Scripture.Said another way, condemning unbiblical positions to those woefully ignorant of the Bible in the first place does little to dispel their ignorance and replace it with knowledge and understanding."

  • about apostolic succession-s2e58 Cogitations
This was an interesting episode for me. It deals with the unbroken line of succession of authority from The Father to us, today. Is that unbroken line through popes, bishops, and priests or something different? • about meekness--s2e54 Cogitations
I am currently reading a fiction series in which a character who is a warmonger is trying to change his ways. His path to self control and redemption is interesting. This podcast is based on a scene in the book where he is trying to negotiate with an enemy so as to not act as the warmonger. It made me think of meekness. This ultra dangerous man tried his best not to be act dangerously. This parallels with the attribute of meekness quite nicely. Jesus is the most dangerous human to ever walk the planet. He always kept His danger in check. take a listen to this episode of Cogitations and let me know what you think. If you like what we do and want to help out, www.patreon.com/nearchurches

  • about being peculiar--s2e53 Cogitations
This episode is from a meme that I shared in the WTT group. The idea is that we need to offer something different to our youth than what the world can offer. Take a listen and let me know what you think.if you like what we do and want to help out, www.patreon.com/nearchurches

  • about the doctrine of eternal Sonship-s2e52 Cogitations
The eternal sonship of the Christ is a difficult doctrine for me. It is not that it is hard for me to understand and refute but that it is so obviously wrong to me that it is hard for me to understand why anyone would hold that belief. I don't understand the payoff. Sadly, this may be evident in this podcast episode. Hopefully I do a good job of, at the least, laying the foundation of refuting the idea that the second member of the Godhead was eternally the Son. • about idolatry--s2e51 Cogitations
This episode comes from a member of the We Talk Truth group. It was such a good question and spawned such good discussion that I felt it worth an episode. Here is the question:
I am doing this digging deep study and I have been stuck on one of the questions for this month for a while. I'll pose the question and if you can I'd appreciate help with it. Thanks in advance!
Are there New Testament passages that specifically prohibit graven images (not just idolatry)? Would the making of images for the purpose of worship be prohibited in broader New Testament prohibitions? Think about this and list three New Testament passages that prohibit image worship.I hope you enjoy my answer.
