The reality of existing in the South Pole? Conditions are not conducive to living without extraordinary measures of physical protection. Explorers who braved that environment prior to any human presence had no such luxury.

Summary edit: As the winter site manager of the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica, White was responsible for the selection, training, and health and safety of the forty-two- and forty-six-person crews. Few people on the planet can say they know what it feels like to walk in the unworldly, frigid winter darkness at the South Pole, but Wayne L. White can—having walked several thousand miles and never missing a day outside during his stay, regardless of the conditions.

Off the beaten path .... Wayne has managed to safely negotiate his way out of situations that many would consider dangerous. Danger due to the intense physical requirements of the terrain - and/or the disposition of the people he would encounter. 

While at the South Pole, he mentions the UFO he [almost] saw... He also says someone asked him to tell him about the -- my phrasing "secret UFO base and stuff" going on there. We get into that in the second segment of the interview. Add paranormal, spooky and top that with an extreme oddity - a very unusual and curiously 'special' rock.
