Cold case cracked open thanks to new DNA tech

In a 1997 cold case, Southfield police say new DNA testing helped identify a suspect in the stabbing death of Deborah Kennedy. Detective Daniel Weeks reopened the investigation, leading to the arrest of former neighbor Robert Joseph Covington in southern Illinois, now extradited and jailed without bond on murder charges after decades sitting in the cold case cabinet.
