Join us as we wrap up our time in Colossians. Connor Alliston shares with us how to have a  life deeply connected to Christ, which includes a consistent, grateful prayer life. Prayer is not just a duty, but a privilege—a vital part of the Christian walk.

In Colossians 4:2, Paul encourages believers to "continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving." Prayer should be persistent (steadfast), alert (watchful), and filled with gratitude. As we pray, we acknowledge that all we have is a gift from God, and our hearts should overflow with thankfulness.

Lastly, we are reminded of God's attentive care in times of distress, as seen in Exodus 2:23-25, where God hears the cries of the Israelites in slavery. He remembers His covenant and acts in their behalf. This gives believers confidence that God is always listening, ready to respond to our prayers with grace and action.

Prayer is a precious privilege. We are called to approach it with persistence, vigilance, and deep gratitude, knowing that every answer is a reflection of God's goodness and provision.

Today's sermon "Thankful in Peace, in Word, and in Name" focuses on Colossians 3 and the transformative power of gratitude in the life of a Christian. It emphasizes that biblical truth is meant to be lived, not just learned, and highlights three key catalysts that increase thankfulness in the believer's life.

1. The Peace of Christ
2. The Word of Christ
3. The Name of Christ

Colossians 3:17 teaches that everything believers do—whether in word or deed—should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father. Acting in Christ's name means living with a sense of purpose and intentionality, reflecting His character and mission. This transforms everyday actions into acts of worship, filled with thankfulness.

The sermon also explores how believers are called to "put to death" sinful behaviors and "put off" negative traits while "putting on" virtues like compassion, kindness, humility, and love. These actions all foster an attitude of thankfulness.

Pastor PJ approaches the subject of speaking in tongues and what the Bible has to say about it.

"When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." Acts 2:1-2, 4 ESV

Two Critical Points the Bible Makes About Speaking in Tongues:
1. When someone Speaks in a tongue publicly, there should always be someone to interpret.  Verses reference: 1 Corinthians 14:27-28 & 14:23
2. Speaking in tongue strengthens the person speaking, not the entire church. Verse reference: 1 Corinthians 14:4-5 & 14:19

Paul makes several points about speaking in tongues:

(1) It is a spiritual gift from God (1 Cor. 14:2)
(2) Even though it is a gift, it isn't a requirement of faith (1 Cor. 12:28-31)
(3) Paul emphasized a greater need for Speaking truth and teaching the Word (1 Cor. 14:4)

What does a seal communicate or symbolize? What does it mean for you and I to be, "sealed with the promised Holy Spirit," Eph. 1:13-14?

Key Thought: The Holy Spirit is an unbreakable seal that confirms that we belong to God. 

The Benefits of the Holy Spirit's Sealing Power:
1. Security
2. Belonging
3. Authority

Working from John 16, PJ Noland walks us through three things God's Holy Spirit does as our helper. 

In wrapping up our series on The Blessed Church, PJ Noland shares how evangelism is a charge given to all believers to live out daily.

Key thought: God desires to make Himself known.

We are all called to be sharers of the Gospel. Romans 10:15, 17 says, "As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!' So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."
