Scripture: Romans 6:20-23

 

The Romans Road to Salvation has been a helpful system to succinctly present the gospel message. While there is nothing wrong with using this system, it is also important to understand the meaning of each verse used before using it. We will give a fresh look at Romans 6:23 (which is at the core of the RR system and often misunderstood by many) to better grasp what it truly means to receive eternal life in Christ.

Not every friendship is guaranteed to last. We have all experienced those times when friendships seem to fail. When it is a casual friend, it can be discomforting. But it is life-changing when a close friend walks away from us. In the final hours of Jesus’s life, His reaction to Judas and the other disciples helps us learn how to properly handle friendship failures.

The main job of a pastor is to faithfully preach God’s word. In 2 Timothy 4:2, the Apostle Paul commanded his son-in-the-faith Timothy to “preach the word!” Unfortunately, some pastors and some churches do not see the importance of this. Other jobs, some of them quite important and necessary, replace the most important task of preaching. Let us never let that happen at College Park.

This section of Scripture encompasses the five books between Job and Song of Solomon. The poem we will consider is attributed to Asaph and is part of book 3 of the Psalms. Our Christmas series concludes today on a high note as we consider the truth that we have been sent, just like our Lord Jesus was sent. Jesus was sent to do the Father’s will by speaking His words and doing His works. In the same vein, we have been sent to do our Savior’s will by speaking His words and doing His works. This is what God wants for us today.

What is Christmas truly about? It is about the birth of the second Person of the Trinity—the incarnation of God. Incarnation is one of the most familiar doctrines among believers and yet also one of the most misunderstood ones. Tonight, we will explore what the incarnation of God means and does not mean and then contemplate on its theological and practical implications.
