COLLEGE SPOTLIGHT: Goelz caps SDSU rodeo career

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Pipestone Area Schools’ graduate Brooklyn Goelz competed for the South Dakota State University rodeo team during the 2025-26 season. Goelz specialty was breakaway roping, competing on her “handsome boy” Hashbrown. Breakaway roping is a fast-paced, timed rodeo event where a mounted rider attempts to rope a calf around the animal’s neck. The rider doesn’t dismount to tie the calf. Goelz was an animal science (pre-veterinary medicine track) major at SDSU, following into the family business. She also had minors in chemistry and animal health.
