    What is an aquanaut?

    "An aquanaut is any person who remains underwater, breathing at the ambient pressure for long enough for the concentration of the inert components of the breathing gas dissolved in the body tissues to reach equilibrium, in a state known as saturation. Usually this is done in an underwater habitat on the seafloor for a period equal to or greater than 24 continuous hours without returning to the surface.

    Here are a few thoughts...

    • They are not well-known to the general public. Many people are unaware of the existence of manned underwater habitats, or they have only a vague understanding of what they are and what they are used for.
    • They are not often featured in the media. Manned underwater habitats are rarely covered in the news or in popular culture. This lack of media coverage contributes to their lack of public awareness.
    • They are not as exciting or glamorous as other space exploration projects. Manned underwater habitats are often seen as less exciting or glamorous than other space exploration projects, such as missions to the Moon or Mars. This may be because underwater habitats are not as visually appealing as rockets and spaceships.
