Context: In verse 12, Paul talked about how God the Father has qualified us to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.REFLECTIONSWritten by Vincent ChanI remember when I learned to share my testimony of how I became a Christian. I shared about the impact that university ministry had on me and the way my family faithfully brought me to church as I was growing up. I also shared about how people from church talked about assurance of salvation and what a mind-shift that was. We all have different stories about how we came to be followers of Jesus, but I’m reminded today that we all have a common story. That story doesn’t focus on us, but its focus is actually on God and his Son Jesus. I’m reminded that it’s God who does the rescuing. As the passage says, ‘he’ has rescued us. As much as we may have searched or explored in our journey of faith, ultimately we look back and see it is God who was the one that brought us to real salvation. And I’m also reminded that the destination of our salvation is to be in the kingdom of Jesus. The phrase ‘kingdom of the Son he loves’ is like a massive spotlight that shows us what Christianity is all about – King Jesus! It’s the kingdom that will never fade and the King who is the true ruler of the world. But we know that his rule is good because this is the same King who provides the means of us entering the kingdom – he enables redemption and forgiveness through his sacrifice (verse 14). What an incredible King! Today, why not spend a few moments reflecting on how God has worked in your life to bring you from the dominion of darkness to the kingdom of his Son. What did God do for you so that you could come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour? As you reflect on that, give thanks that God is doing this same amazing work all over the world.
