1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.REFLECTIONSWritten by Rodney ClarkeThis is an interesting passage, particularly setting your minds on the things above. In the movie “Indiana Jones and the last Crusade”, Indiana Jones goes on a quest to find the Holy Grail. Inadvertently he reconnects with his father who has studied the clues for finding the Grail. When they finally achieve their goal, Indy asks his dad what he learned. He replies, "Illumination". Others wanted the Grail for fortune and glory, but he realised the Grail pointed to something far greater.Setting our minds on the things above is about putting off the world and being in step with God and his plans and purposes. It’s about constantly remembering that Christ is at God’s right hand and that our true life is hidden with him. We have been raised with Christ and Jesus intercedes for us even now. We have been called out of our old life of sin and death into something far greater. Why would you want to turn away and go back into darkness and death? Therefore we serve God now and wait patiently for Christ's return – our hope of glory.ABOUT THE AUTHORRodney is a member of our Fairfield Morning Congregation.
