Welcome to another episode of Las Platicas, a show hosted by Comadres y Comics, where we meet with creators and friends to talk about upcoming projects, events and all-around awesome news in the comic community. Today we are discussing a comic anthology that asks a deceptively simple question: what happens when we actually step outside and reconnect with the natural world?

How to Touch Grass is a thoughtful and wide-ranging collection that brings together creators exploring our relationship to nature, technology, and each other. Through personal stories, essays, and creative explorations, the anthology dives into everything from plant identification and community building to philosophy, mental health, and the hidden networks, both human and mycelial, that connect us.

In a time when so much of our lives happen online, this book invites us to slow down, look around, and remember that the ground beneath our feet has stories to tell too.

We are honored to be joined by members of the creative team behind the anthology to talk about how this project came together, what “touching grass” really means to them, and how culture, community, and personal experience shaped the pieces they contributed.

SALUDOS:  Dolores Huerta is an American labor leader and feminist activist. After working for several years with the Community Service Organization (CSO), she co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) with fellow activists Cesar Chavez and Gilbert Padilla, which eventually merged with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) to become the United Farm Workers (UFW). ON MY RADAR: The Digger by T.S. Luther & Sam Gudilin In 1930s Veracruz Mexico, along the Gulf Coast, lie Olmec ruins, all but hidden to anyone from the outside world. Locals make money guiding academics and scholars through the region. But there is one name that is spoken in hushed tones, one name guides stay away from, they call him “El Excavador”. But The Boy doesn’t listen to whispers, he hasn’t seen that no one returns from guiding The American in the hat. No, The Boy doesn’t know the man with the eyes of the devil. But The Boy knows he needs money for his sick grandma, and The Boy knows The American has money, and The Boy KNOWS where the ruins are. What begins as guide and treasure hunter, turns into cat and mouse.
