Welcome to another episode of Las Platicas, a show hosted by Comadres y Comics, where we meet with creators and friends to talk about upcoming projects, events and all-around awesome news in the comic community. Today, we’re joined by the co-editors of Four Seasons of Fear: A Year of Queer Horror: Tara Madison Avery, publisher, cartoonist, and founder of Stacked Deck Press, and Michael Varrati, screenwriter and director.

Launching today on Kickstarter, Four Seasons of Fear brings together queer comics creators and film professionals for an anthology of horror stories inspired by the calendar year, from holidays and seasonal traditions to celebrations, school, summer carnivals, and even Sweet Sixteen parties. The collection features an incredible range of creators and we are super excited to hear more about this amazing project. Welcome Tara and Michael!

Welcome to another episode of Las Platicas, a show hosted by Comadres y Comics, where we meet with creators and friends to talk about upcoming projects, events and all-around awesome news in the comic community. Today we’re talking with Shane Portman, someone who has spent his career telling stories across some very different mediums from sketch comedy and live storytelling to animation and now comics. Shrub, written by Shane and published by Fanbase Press, is a middle-grade graphic novel about a brother and sister dealing with the loss of a loved one while taking a cross-country road trip….with a shrub along for the ride….obviously!! At its heart, Shrub is a story about grief, family, connection, and the ways we try to move forward after experiencing loss. Additionally, the story is especially meaningful given that Shane drew from his own experience with losing his father. He’s taken something deeply personal and used it to create a story that can give young readers a way to think about grief and complicated emotions, while still leaving room for humor, adventure, and hope. With a Kickstarter for Shrub: The Collected Edition launching soon, we’re going to talk about where the idea for Shrub came from, how you turn something as complicated as grief into a story for young readers, and why sometimes the best way to talk about difficult things is through a story that is a little bit strange, a little bit funny, and ultimately very human. Welcome, Shane!

For the past decade, the Comadres y Comics podcast has highlighted Latinx creators, characters, and fans, creating a consistent platform for conversations around comics, culture, and community.

This 10th anniversary panel brings together hosts, past guests, and industry voices to reflect on how both the podcast and the comics landscape have evolved over the last decade. The discussion will explore shifts in representation, access, and independent media, and the role community-driven platforms play in shaping industry dialogue.

Panelists will also examine how Comadres y Comics has helped amplify voices, build connections, and create visibility for underrepresented perspectives in comics.

Welcome to another episode of Las Platicas, a show hosted by Comadres y Comics, where we meet with creators and friends to talk about upcoming projects, events and all around awesome news in the comic community.

We've had the pleasure of talking with Javier Hernandez over the years, and every conversation reminds us why he's been such an important voice in independent comics. Through stories rooted in Latino culture, history, and mythology, Javier has spent decades creating characters and worlds that reflect communities too often left out of the mainstream. Now he's back with a Kickstarter campaign that expands upon the El Muerto legacy with Man from Mictlan #2, the next chapter in his action-packed series inspired by Mexican mythology. Today, we talk with Javier about where the story goes next, what readers can expect from the campaign, and why independent, culturally authentic storytelling continues to matter in today's comics landscape. Welcome, Javier!
