What is your relationship with responsibility?
Does the word make you feel strong, alive and empowered? Or does it bring a sense of weight, pressure and heaviness?
In this episode, Francesco and Chiara continue following the first chapter of the book and explore one of its central themes: responsibility.
Starting from the famous phrase, "With great power comes great responsibility," the episode turns the idea around: with great responsibility comes great power. Responsibility, when understood in the right way, can become a source of growth, stability, joy and deeper connection.
But not all responsibility is healthy.
Taking too much responsibility can become heavy. It can lead us to carry other people's lives, choices, emotions or tasks on our shoulders. Even when the intention is to help, the hidden message may become: "I can do it, but you can't." In this way, instead of supporting others, we may unintentionally take away their opportunity to develop their own strength.
At the other extreme, taking too little responsibility can create passivity, lack of motivation and disconnection. When nothing feels like "my business," there is little energy, little involvement and little inner drive.
The heart of the episode is the search for the right amount of responsibility: enough to feel alive, engaged and capable of responding, but not so much that we become overwhelmed or take away someone else's possibility to grow.
The word itself becomes a key: respons-ability — the ability to respond.
Francesco and Chiara also explore the difference between responsibility and blame. When life does not meet our expectations, we can easily fall into blaming others, blaming ourselves or blaming the world. But blame often moves responsibility away from us. A more empowering question is: what can I actually do? Can I change my expectations? Can I change my actions? Can I influence the situation, even if I cannot fully control it?
The episode also touches on Byron Katie's distinction between my business, other people's business and God's business, reminding us that many things are outside our direct control. Yet even when we cannot control something, we can still influence how we relate to it.
This episode is an invitation to look at the way responsibility is distributed in our lives: in relationships, in education, at work, in family life and within ourselves.
Where are we taking too much? Where are we taking too little? And where could responsibility become not a burden, but a superpower?
