A gentle bedtime story about the happiest morning in Jerusalem — the day a whole city gathered just to hear God’s words, and found that the joy of the Lord was their strength. A Come Follow Me bedtime story for July 27–August 2, “I Am Doing a Great Work” (Nehemiah 8, Ezra).
Tonight’s “Come Follow Me” story comes from the book of Nehemiah. The people had come home at last, their broken walls rebuilt strong and safe. On a soft, golden morning, they all gathered in the open square by the Water Gate — mothers, fathers, and all the children old enough to understand. A man named Ezra, who had kept God’s words safe like a treasure, climbed a wooden platform and opened the great scroll, and everyone stood up out of love for the words of God. As Ezra read, and kind helpers explained, the people remembered how much God loved them, and they began to cry happy tears. But the leaders said, “Do not be sad — this is a holy, happy day. Go home, eat something good and sweet, and share with anyone who has none. For the joy of the Lord is your strength.” And there was very great gladness that day.
This story was created to help little ones end the day feeling safe, loved, and close to God — and to remember that His words are a treasure given just for them. Play it as your child settles into bed and drifts gently to sleep.
