NOTES LEDE: Both the MARVIN HOFFERT JAZZ (3.21) AND VICTIMS OF LOVE (3.28) concerts have been postponed, re-scheduled with copious and overflowing amounts of anguish and regret. We made this painful decision today and extend our apologies to those (the few) who purchased advance tickets. Refunds and/or extensions on the reschedule dates is underway, please bear with us and be patient. Transparency no-spin: Trust me when I tell you that I am fully aware that gas is $5/gal and a decent loaf of bread tops that, but advance ticket sales are crucial if we are to continue to present quality entertainment. Art, film and music are the antidote to the relentless barrage of propaganda and deceit presented to us as news. Our formula calls for 60% of break-even two weeks prior to event day. If we fail to achieve this, the show, much to everyone’s chagrin, gets postponed and rescheduled at best, or scrubbed altogether at worst. Pouring sodium into the deep wound, I still have to pay a cancellation fee to the talent and their management. OUCH! Moral to this tale: PLEASE PURCHASE YOUR SPECIAL EVENT TICKETS EARLY!

SIRAT. Please note we kept SIRAT for week two and dropped A MAGNIFICENT LIFE for now. Because it is that good! The literal translation of SIRAT, from the Arabic is, “The path or bridge separating Paradise from Hell.” We are told in the opening title card that the bridge is thin as a hair and sharp as a sword. French filmmaker Oliver Luxe wastes no time in establishing the characters in his story as ‘seekers of meaning’ as they rave their way under the influence of a spectacular desert backdrop to the relentless sonic heartbeat of the cosmic DJ spinning mysterious spiritual enlightenment for the faithful. One of the most grippingly catastrophic scenes in cinematic history warns us that life is precious. Or not. You will not leave a screening of this film the same person you were prior to walking the Sirat.

A MAGNIFICENT LIFE is Sylvain Chomet’s beautifully animated, yet clumsily scripted, love letter to French writer and filmmaker Marcel Pagnol. Those cherishing THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE or THE ILLUSIONIST, are in for another wild ride of hand-drawn animation and visual artistry. Long live Bruno.

TOW. A homeless SEATTLE woman is living in her car. She gets a 21K parking bill from the City. We take it from there. Stephanie Laing Directs the dram-com written by Jonathan Keasey and Brent Boivin. Stars Rose Byrne, fresh off her Oscar win, with cameos by Demi Lovato and Corbin Bernsen. SPOILER: While it is taken from the true SEATTLE story, it was shot somewhere in bf New Jersey. Kinda disappointing, but still should be worth a watch. Especially with a cold Bainbridge Island Brewing IPA.

All for today folks. Thank you as always for your fearless support of our work. Hope your favorite film of 2025 won big!

Kevin
