OBAA. See the spectacle that has earned 13 nominations, including best Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting, adapted screenplay and several more in the craft categories. Its return has more to do with its sprawling scope and non-stop action, than the aforementioned noms, but the DiCaprio, Del Toro, Infinity, Penn, Greenwood and PTA magic magnificently fires on every cylinder. Lastly, closing with Bob’s wink at his selfie as Willa heads out to a Code Red alert in Oakland to Petty’s American Girl, is classic, vintage and picture perfect all in one scene. Could it take the BIG FIVE, first since SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (’91), CUCKOOS NEST (’75) or IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (’34)? I think only Timothee Chalamet, Michael B Jordan and Jesse Buckley stand in the way. Local Filmmaker ANDREW TAYLOR and I talk about this and other Oscar items here.

SIRAT. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, here it is. It looks 100x better on our screen than what you are currently looking at. Guaranteed. Having garnered four noms itself puts it into very respected territory, it visually juxtaposes itself to Mad Max, Burning Man and several Liam Neeson episodes from the Taken series. I predict great things for this one, as has Rolling Stone, the LA Times and Variety. Starts Friday.

MARVIN HOFFERT JAZZ. Straight-ahead Jazz with a modern twist is the vibe served up by the MARVIN HOFFERT Quintet. It’s throwback pricing for this sure to please one-time event as we celebrate an evening of smooth Jazz and cool tunes (for ten bucks!) Doors at 6, show at 7.

VICTIMS OF LOVE. Everybody has a favorite EAGLES tune (Good Day in Hell, Fast Lane, New Kid in Town, Desperado, Best of My Love being a few of mine) and the VICTIMS OF LOVE preform them all with a painstaking degree of accuracy, despite the degree of difficulty in even getting close. Because there is close (no cigar - but nice try) and then there is actually nailing the notes. These five incredibly talented musicians nail it. I did a Zoom chat with guitarist and backing vocalist SHANE GILLISPIE last week where we talked about all that goes into getting the sound just right. Here it is should you want to take a peaceful easy feeling into that dark desert highway. Tickets HERE.

Thanks to all who came out for our pair of special events last week, RACHEL AND SIENNA’S EMERGENCE FILMS promo, and MADI WILLIAMSON’S LOVING ACROSS BORDERS. These local filmmakers, producers, activists are what keeps our vibrant art and humanities community healthy and marching into the light. Wanna get involved? Want to be a part of the solution? Want to have your voice heard? Want to support all the positivity we encourage, promote and celebrate? Call the HLT Hotline today to find out how easy it is to take that first step. 206.451.4336.
