In this episode, guest host Libby Bates steps in for Tyler to chat with Dr. Michael Mithoefer about MDMA Assisted Therapy for PTSD. Dr. Mithoefer is the Senior Medical Director for Medical Affairs, Training and Supervision for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). Dr. Mithoefer covers his background and what inspired his passion to help the veteran community heal from PTSD and trauma.
Dr. Mithoefer describes the process of participating in a MDMA Assisted Therapy Trial and how the use of MDMA decreases fear and defensiveness to enable the desire to discuss the trauma. Several participants have expressed the inability to move forward or process the trauma clearly, however, after several sessions they have been able to evolve within a safe, controlled environment. Creating a new perspective!
MDMA Assisted Therapy is currently in its third stage of clinical trials. Follow the research at maps.org/mdma/ptsd . Follow on MAPS news on Instagram @mapsnews

In this episode, Tyler talks with Mary Cronk Farrell, an award winning journalist and author, about Catherine Leroy, one of the first female photographers during the Vietnam war. An inspiring and fascinating story of the woman who gave a human face to the Vietnam War. Close-Up on War tells the story of French-born Catherine Leroy, one of the war’s few woman photographers, who documented some of the fiercest fighting in the 20-year conflict. Although she had no formal photographic training and had never traveled more than a few hundred miles from Paris before, Leroy left home at age 21 to travel to Vietnam and document the faces of war. Despite being told that women didn't belong in a “man’s world,” she was cool under fire, gravitated toward the thickest battles, went along on the soldiers’ slogs through the heat and mud of the jungle, crawled through rice paddies, and became the only official photojournalist to parachute into combat with American soldiers. Leroy took striking photos that gave America no choice but to look at the realities of war—showing what it did to people on both sides—from wounded soldiers to civilian casualties.

Brandon's story is heartbreaking and a preventable tragedy that veterans face everyday. In this episode, Tyler is joined by Brandon's parents, Teri and Patrick Caserta, to talk about Brandon's story and The Brandon Act.
The Brandon Act is designed to protect service members who experience mental health emergencies and reduce the stigma around reporting. This bill will allow service members to seek mental health treatment, and require a mental health evaluation as soon as a service member self-reports. It will also allow Americans serving in uniform to seek help confidentially and, if necessary, outside of the chain of command.
