Opening Message:
Hey guys, it's Esther.
First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who has listened to this podcast. We've received several heartfelt messages letting us know why it's been helpful to you in some way.
A young woman reached out who was raised in a church similar to ours in the same town. She found our openness about fear, denying ourselves, and trying to live up to unrealistic expectations relatable and so helpful.
Another woman who married an ex-endtimer thanked us for doing the podcast because it helped her understand her husband's past.
I also want to thank all of the "townspeople" (sorry, I had to say that) who have sent out kind messages to us. The messages were filled with love and compassion, but also remorse that our communities were so separated.
When my sister and I decided to do this podcast, we felt good about it and just ran with it. We didn't have a clear end in sight. I guess this is an outlet for my sister and I to get all of our thoughts and opinions out in one place.
It seems we both can’t stop thinking or talking. So, here we are.
After our first episode aired, we got a little freaked out and felt like our lack of a plan enabled our podcast to be turned into something we never intended it to be "digging up old feelings from the past and hurting others."
That was never our intention. All we wanted to do was to share our lives and shine a light on our struggles to inspire hope.
With that being said, Katee and I rushed back to re-record the last episode, "episode #2 - 19 days," We both felt pressure to withhold information and simply brush over the topic. I didn’t like the episode, I was proud of it. We were both a little on edge and talking over each other too much.
After our anxiety settled for a week, and I listened to the old recordings, I realized they were totally fine and not offensive.
It seems, that the only people getting offended were those who may still be dealing with some hurt, or maybe they didn’t understand the project altogether.
You should never be scared of the truth. The hard truth is what can save you and help you recreate a new life. This is what this podcast is all about—being honest and moving on to a better life.
Our goal is never to bring others down, and we will always try to be respectful.
One last thing, somehow, the ending of this podcast went missing. So as my sister and I share the drama of getting a home mailbox, the recording abruptly stops. I tried to find it, but I came up empty-handed.
Please enjoy this episode; this is the “actual” episode #2.
