In this episode, Katee and I get right into the little black book of rules that came out of the cult. Some odd, some strange, and some oh so specific.
Then towards the end, we debate whether our cult rules have any similarities to the American dream.

Hey Guys, It's Esther.
I wanted to say a little something about this episode beforehand to help you understand where I am coming from.
Even though my sister and I seem pretty lighthearted about my engagement, that doesn't mean talking about it wasn't difficult.
This topic has always been tender to me. I used to burst into tears when I first told people about it. I pitted myself and still had so much pain and confusion from it.
Only within the past few days did I realize that sharing my story, even if some people don't want me to or are triggered by it, it's OK.
Sometimes we think our pains are the biggest iceberg that will topple us if we get too close, but that is not true.
The truth is that with time, you can get right up to that giant ole iceberg and stand on it if you wish.
I used to worry a lot about hurting others by telling my story. The parents, his parents, my ex, I didn't want them to feel bad or uncomfortable.
But then I ask myself, why can't I tell the truth of it? Why should I not tell my story? Why is it too much?
My story belongs to me. I am not putting anyone down or trying to hurt anyone. I am simply saying what happened and talking about how I felt about it.
I no longer need to babysit others' emotions. My intentions are good, and I never desire to hurt someone by telling my story.
I still struggle to label what type of marriage it was. Some people say no doubt it was arranged, and then other people tell me it wasn't. I've been told that everything would have been stopped if I had gone to X person and said I wasn't ready. I frequently call it a pressured marriage.
However, Today, the label doesn't matter. When I think about it, I was a young teen that had no clue about marriage. I didn't know how to be a wife.
I didn't have the natural feelings of a blushing bride. I was out of touch with my emotions and immature. I was interested in him, but I didn't know him.
I wanted to choose my partner, but I felt it was too late to slow things down.
We were two young teens that went through some of our most challenging years together. We survived a cult together, came out of a cult together, and started to find ourselves together. It wasn't easy.
That's all I wanted to say.
Enjoy the episode.

Opening Message:
Hey guys, it's Esther.
First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who has listened to this podcast. We've received several heartfelt messages letting us know why it's been helpful to you in some way.
A young woman reached out who was raised in a church similar to ours in the same town. She found our openness about fear, denying ourselves, and trying to live up to unrealistic expectations relatable and so helpful.
Another woman who married an ex-endtimer thanked us for doing the podcast because it helped her understand her husband's past.
I also want to thank all of the "townspeople" (sorry, I had to say that) who have sent out kind messages to us. The messages were filled with love and compassion, but also remorse that our communities were so separated.
When my sister and I decided to do this podcast, we felt good about it and just ran with it. We didn't have a clear end in sight. I guess this is an outlet for my sister and I to get all of our thoughts and opinions out in one place.
It seems we both can’t stop thinking or talking. So, here we are.
After our first episode aired, we got a little freaked out and felt like our lack of a plan enabled our podcast to be turned into something we never intended it to be "digging up old feelings from the past and hurting others."
That was never our intention. All we wanted to do was to share our lives and shine a light on our struggles to inspire hope.
With that being said, Katee and I rushed back to re-record the last episode, "episode #2 - 19 days," We both felt pressure to withhold information and simply brush over the topic. I didn’t like the episode, I was proud of it. We were both a little on edge and talking over each other too much.
After our anxiety settled for a week, and I listened to the old recordings, I realized they were totally fine and not offensive.
It seems, that the only people getting offended were those who may still be dealing with some hurt, or maybe they didn’t understand the project altogether.
You should never be scared of the truth. The hard truth is what can save you and help you recreate a new life. This is what this podcast is all about—being honest and moving on to a better life.
Our goal is never to bring others down, and we will always try to be respectful.
One last thing, somehow, the ending of this podcast went missing. So as my sister and I share the drama of getting a home mailbox, the recording abruptly stops. I tried to find it, but I came up empty-handed.
Please enjoy this episode; this is the “actual” episode #2.
In this episode, we dive into our teenage years, Esther's 19 days to marriage, our perspectives now, and Nordstrom underwear.
We discuss, ramble, and say the word "like" way too many times.
