April 24 this year marks the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, where 1.5 million Armenians were killed as a result of the Ottoman Empire's deliberate policy to wipe out Christian minorities. On this program, Nicole speaks with women whose families survived the genocide. Poet and writer from Western Australia, Marcella Polain tells the story of her family's survival, migration, and the lasting impacts of that loss.From Istabul, prominent Turkish-Armenian writer and human rights lawyer, Fethiye Cetin speaks with us about her family story, and the situation in Turkey today.Diana Tchakerian from Melbourne shares her thoughts on the issue of genocide recognition.
