A deeper look at the four classic questions of the Passover Haggadah and their message to our times.

Our Sages differ regarding the month that marks the beginning of creation. They also debate the month in which redemption will come. This class reconciles their views and provides critical insight into the divergent forces that must combine to redeem the world.

One source in the Talmud posits that at some point in the Messianic era the commandments will become nullified and obsolete. Yet other sources indicate that the commandments are eternal? This class will resolve the apparent contradiction and present an overview of the evolution of practical Halacha, and in so doing, will reveal the astonishing essence of a mitzvah. How the story of a Sage's strange behavior at a wedding provides the key to living life to the fullest. (Based on the maamar Bosi L'gani 5735)

The night before they left Egypt, the Children of Israel were commanded to eat matzah and bitter herbs together with the Paschal lamb "waist-belted, shoes on your feet and staff in your hand". Thus class will explore the spiritual dimension of this dress-code and its guidance for our personal exodus. (Based on the maamor V'kocho 5737)

When G-d instructed Moses to go down to Egypt and speak to Pharaoh, Moses protested that he was unfit for the task due to his speech impediment. G-d responded that He would grant Moses the ability to speak and, furthermore, Aaron would act as his spokesperson. Strangely, before Moses approaches Pharaoh he again posits the very same argument only to receive the very same answer! This class will explain the subtle but critical difference between the two scenarios and in so doing will offer a valuable lesson in the art of effective communication.

On the 24th of Kislev (according to most views) the Maccabees succeeded in expelling the occupying Greek army. On the 25th of Kislev the Jews discovered the pure cruse of oil. On the 26th of Kislev the miracle of the oil lasting beyond one day became manifest. This class will explain the spiritual and personal significance of these events. The month of Kislev is replete with Chassidic milestones, the most famous of which is Yud Tes Kislev (the 19th of Kislev) known as the Rosh Hashanah of Chassidus. Six days later, on the 25th of Kislev, begins the festival of Chanukah. This class will explore the connection between these two celebrations and the message for our times.

When one forgives another for a crime committed against them, what does this mean? Does it mean that the sinner is absolved and cleansed? But what of justice and repentance? And, the big question: By what right can one dispense forgiveness to begin with? The problem with the crime is that it is, first and foremost, a transgression of G-d's will. Surely then, forgiveness is His domain alone?!

The month of Kislev is replete with chassidic milestones, beginning with the Maggid of Mezeritch (successor to the Baal Shem Tov) and the Alter Rebbe (founder of Chabad), and concluding with our Rebbe. This class will address this phenomenon and its powerful, timely message.
