Patience is defined as long-delayed anger or longsuffering, required when a desired outcome is frustrated; it often reveals subtle pride and can lead to viewing the person or situation as a "functional enemy". In contrast, God's perfect patience stems from His sovereignty and love, offering grace, mercy, and space for repentance that ultimately leads to salvation. As recipients of His patience and new identity, we are called to display this fruit of the Spirit, rooted in love and a genuine desire for righteous change in others. Moments of impatience offer opportunities for confession and worship, remembering Christ's ultimate patience exemplified at the Communion table.

This week, we unpack the Fruit of the Spirit: Peace (Eirene). Discover how true peace is a confident rest in the wisdom and control of God, designed to replace worry and anxiety. We discuss how this peace is mandated to rule in your hearts, binding all the other spiritual characteristics together in perfect harmony. Be warned against the counterfeit version of peace: indifference and apathy that dismisses the importance of caring. Learn how this gift, brought to us through Christ's death, requires actively choosing trust over circumstances

This week Timothy, an elder at Osborne Village Church, invites us to explore the beauty of joy as a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Tim shares that our God is a joyful God, delighting in creation and inviting us into His happiness through Jesus’ selfless love and sacrifice. Unlike the world’s fleeting pursuit of pleasure to find happiness, God's word encourages us to embrace the deep, lasting joy that flows from Christ’s redemption, allowing us to live vibrantly in every moment—whether sharing a meal, celebrating with friends, or resting in God’s presence. This message is an open invitation to experience joy as a gift that transforms how we live, love, and connect with others, all rooted in the assurance of God’s unchanging grace.

• Head (Understanding): God is a happy God who created us to share in His joy, as beautifully shown in Ephesians 1. Embrace the truth that joy and happiness are woven together in God’s heart for us, freeing us from the idea that Christian joy is only a quiet, inner feeling apart from life’s pleasures. It's a joy driven by the freedom we now have in our relationship with our creator because of the finished work of Jesus!

• Heart (Feeling): Allow your heart to be warmed by the secure joy of Christ’s love, as Tim invites us to feel God’s delight in us. Whether we’re walking through sorrow or celebrating life’s blessings, let this joy overflow, enabling us to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice, trusting in God’s steadfast goodness.

• Hands (Action): With open hands, join in living out this joy by delighting in God’s gifts—savouring good food, laughing with friends, or serving at church events like potlucks or camp. Share this happiness by inviting others to experience the abundant life Christ offers, through the truth of God's word, a shared meal, or a warm welcome, showing the world the joy of knowing Jesus.

In this episode we dig into the concept of "bearing fruit" as outlined in John 15, where Jesus describes Himself as the vine and believers as branches that must abide in Him to produce fruit. This fruit, characterized by the Holy Spirit’s attributes in Galatians 5:22-23 (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control), glorifies God, fosters love within the church community, and serves as a witness to the world; and that repentance is the prerequisite for bearing fruit.

Living it Out:

• Head: Encourage intellectual curiosity about the fruit in one’s life by reflecting on Galatians 5:22-23. Ask questions like: What does love, joy, or peace look like in my life? Where do I express or receive these qualities, and how can I grow in them?

• Heart: Cultivate a posture of mourning over personal sin and dependence on Christ, recognizing that true fruit comes from abiding in Him. This involves investing in the spiritual growth of others, ensuring the fruit of one’s life nourishes the community, not just oneself.

• Hands: Actively engage others with intentional questions (e.g., “What brings you joy?” or “How do you handle difficulties?”) to bear witness to Christ. This practical application involves sharing the gospel through actions and conversations, offering the fruit of one’s life as a testimony to God’s transformative power.

This week we tackle Matthew 10 in one epic sweep! Jesus delivers a raw, unfiltered commissioning to His disciples, sending them out as sheep among wolves to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. Far from a feel-good pep talk, this is a call to fearless mission, warning of persecution, division, and sacrifice, yet promising divine provision and eternal reward. Join us as we unpack how every believer is sent as an ambassador of Christ’s grace, empowered to live boldly for the King who gave His life to free us from self-worship and invite others into His kingdom. 

Head, Heart, Hands Application:

Head: Recognize that Jesus is the sole authority to forgive sins and restore us to right worship of God, freeing us from the futility of self-worship. Understand that every Christian is sent as a missionary to proclaim this gospel, regardless of the cost or context.

Heart: Feel the weight and freedom of Jesus’ call to love Him above all else, letting go of worldly attachments that fuel fear or self-preservation. Embrace the assurance that His provision and protection are enough, even amidst persecution, stirring a deep love for Him as our Redeemer.

Hands: Live as bold ambassadors of Christ’s kingdom, sharing the gospel freely with neighbors, coworkers, and family through love and generosity that demand an explanation. Join with your missional community to proclaim Jesus’ death and resurrection, holding each other accountable to go where He sends, confessing resistance, and trusting Him for the harvest.

• Heart: Feel humbled and freed by Christ’s lordship, releasing the burden of controlling outcomes or bearing guilt for others’ rejection of the gospel. Embrace joy and peace in submitting to the King who reigns now, trusting His provision and authority to change hearts.
• Hands: Live sent by proclaiming the kingdom of heaven in your daily spaces—work, home, or community—through words and deeds that reflect Christ’s rule. Lay your mission field before the Lord, obey His direction, and call others, both inside and outside the church, to worship Him, trusting God for the growth.

Today we dive into Matthew 9:35-38, where Jesus, moved by compassion, sees the weary and scattered crowds as sheep without a shepherd. Join us as we explore how Jesus, the rightful King, preaches the gospel of the kingdom, heals every disease, and calls His disciples to pray for laborers to join the plentiful harvest. This sermon hints at a pivotal transition in Christ’s ministry, foreshadowing the expansion of His mission through His followers, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to bring rest, community, and hope to a lost world.

Head:

Understand that Jesus, though omnipotent, chose to limit Himself in His humanity to fulfill God’s redemptive plan, modeling compassion for the weary and scattered. Recognize that His call to pray for laborers prepares us to join His mission with transformed hearts.

Heart:

Feel the compassion of Christ for the lost, weary, and isolated, as He sees them as sheep needing a shepherd. Let this move us to pray earnestly, aligning our hearts with His love, even when it leads to the pain of rejection or loss.

Hands:

Pray for the Lord to send laborers into the harvest, trusting the Holy Spirit to transform us and burden us for others—Christians and non-Christians alike. Act on this compassion by discipling those God places in our lives, sharing the gospel with boldness and love, knowing all the while that the harvest is plentiful!

In this episode of Osborne Village Church’s Sunday Rewind, Caleb (the Osborne Village Church Deacon of Youth) explores Matthew 9:18-34, focusing on four miracle stories and a contrasting non-story involving the Pharisees. The passage illustrates Jesus’ authority over life, death, sickness, and spiritual oppression through the healing of a ruler’s daughter, a woman with a chronic bleeding condition, two blind men, and a mute, demon-possessed man. Each story follows a narrative arc of a person with a problem, Jesus as the solution (the “boom”), and a resulting change, such as spreading the news of His miracles. The Pharisees, however, remain stagnant, rejecting Jesus’ power due to pride and failing to acknowledge their own need. Caleb emphasizes that Jesus meets all needs, encouraging listeners to recognize their own, submit to Him in faith, and share His transformative work with others.

Head, Heart, Hands Application

Head

Recognize that Jesus has authority over all creation, including life, death, and every personal circumstance, and is willing to meet all needs. Reflect on whether you believe He can address your specific needs.

Heart

Examine where you turn when faced with needs or sins—do you run to Jesus or try to manage alone? Consider if pride, shame, or guilt prevents you from seeking Christ and community, and cultivate a desperate faith that trusts Jesus fully.

Hands

Act on Jesus’ power by boldly bringing your needs to Him, surrendering areas of pride, and sharing His work in your life with others. Like the friends of the mute man, actively bring those who cannot come to Jesus on their own, acting as conduits of His grace.

This week we looked at Matthew 9:14-17. Pastor Brennan explores Jesus' response to the question of why His disciples do not fast, unlike the Pharisees and John the Baptist’s followers. Jesus presents Himself as the bridegroom, signaling a new era of joy and fulfillment that renders traditional fasting inappropriate while He is present. Through the metaphors of new cloth on an old garment and new wine in fresh wineskins, Jesus illustrates that His coming introduces a transformative reality that cannot be contained within the old religious systems. We trace this theme through Scripture, emphasizing God’s promise to redeem and clothe His people in righteousness, fulfilled in Jesus’ sacrificial love for His bride, the church. And through this, we're challenged to embrace this new identity in Christ, confessing the lie of self-righteousness and living in the clean righteousness purchased for us by Christ at his death, celebrating his resurrection, and living in anticipation of the bridegroom’s return.

This week on our Sunday Rewind, we look at the revolutionary mission of Jesus, the rightful King, who proclaims the gospel of the kingdom in word and deed. From healing a paralyzed man to calling Matthew, a tax collector, Jesus showcases His unmatched authority over sin, sickness, and self-righteousness.
