FCF CAMP 2026 – NIGHT 3: WHAT IS PRAYER?
What is prayer?
Why do Christians pray?
How do we pray?
And what do we do with the parts of prayer that many Christians either misunderstand, avoid, or never talk about?
In Night 3 of FCF Youth Camp, Matthew Wright takes students on a deep dive into one of the most important practices of the Christian life: prayer.
Far more than a religious ritual, prayer is an invitation into relationship with God. It is not merely talking to God—it is communion with Him. Prayer is where we learn to trust Him, listen to Him, worship Him, intercede for others, confess our sins, express gratitude, and align our hearts with His will.
This teaching explores:
* What prayer actually is
* Why Jesus prayed and why we should pray
* How to develop a healthy prayer life
* The different types of prayer found throughout Scripture
* How prayer shapes our relationship with God
* Why prayer is more than asking God for things
The message also tackles one of the most misunderstood subjects in the Church today: praying in the Spirit and speaking in tongues.
Looking at Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 12, and 1 Corinthians 14, Matthew addresses common fears, misconceptions, and questions surrounding spiritual gifts while emphasizing the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers.
Rather than creating division, the goal is to bring biblical clarity and encourage students to pursue all that God has made available through His Spirit.
The night concluded with a powerful challenge:
Find one person.
Ask them how you can pray for them.
Then pray for them out loud.
Because prayer was never meant to stay private.
We are called to carry one another’s burdens, encourage one another, and become people who confidently pray for others.
Many believers spend their entire prayer life talking.
But every healthy relationship involves both speaking and listening.
Perhaps the reason we struggle to hear God’s voice is because we rarely stop long enough to listen.
Prayer is not simply a way to get something from God.
Prayer is an invitation to know Him.
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” — Colossians 4:2
