A Callery Pear tree tree planted near the World Trade Center in the 1970s. When workers found it in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack, it looked like the image on the left. But workers nursed it back to health, and it resumed growth. It faced another great storm and more damage in 2010, but prior to the 10 year anniversary observance in 2011, it looked like the picture on the right. You definitely notice that the tree has known trauma, but it is a thriving, living, organism that has survived and found a way to flourish despite the hardships . . . . . . can find ways to reconfigure our lives in positive ways because of our traumatic experiences.
