In this episode we begin a series on the Encyclical, Rerum Novarum. Today’s episode is an introduction, taking a look at the major economic shift that brought about the writing of this encyclical. Many see this encyclical as the foundation for all the following encyclicals that deal with social issues.

In this episode we look at the history of encyclicals that deal with social issues. Beginning with Rerum Novarum, we will look at the issues that each encyclical dealt with since then. We will also take a look at why these series of encyclical began, at what the circumstances around the encyclicals were and why the Church began defining its’ social teaching after many centuries.

Today, we welcome back guest Kevin Williams, who serves the unborn and mothers in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Today, we will take a look at various ministries to the unborn in various places. We will learn from real life examples how people are taking unique approaches to abortion, bringing healing to families and creating justice one neighborhood at a time. We will look at the positive aspects of each of these approaches as well as some pitfalls of each. It is important to understand these two major approaches to being a society in order to know how to create a just society where we are, because the mindset of those in our neighborhood will inform them what justice looks like.
