One of the primary ways we encounter Jesus is through scripture. But given these texts were written so long ago by people in vastly different contexts and cultures than we live, how do we learn to apply scripture to our lives and let it illuminate our worldview?

The Parable of the Shrewd Manager is a particularly difficult parable to understand relative to Jesus' other parables. It's not so much that this story is taken out of context, but rather is just plain confusing. Taking a look at the context around this story should help us understand this passage a little more clearly and discover what applications we can take away from it.

Instead of taking a look at a specific verse, today we are looking at a topic - women in the church. Some verses in the Bible, if we take them out of context, can lead us to believe ideas about women, their role in the church and community that just simply aren't true. We hope this provides you insight into the equality, significance, and agency God created both men and women to have.
