It is easy to believe that when we become lost, broken, ashamed, or distant from God, our value somehow decreases with us. But Jesus tells a different story. In Luke 15, the coin was lost, but it was never worthless. Its condition changed, but its value did not. The woman did not search for the coin because it was impressive or useful. She searched because it belonged to her and because it was valuable. In the same way, God's pursuit of us is not a response to our performance. He searches because He values us. This message confronts the lie that our worth is determined by our productivity, success, usefulness, or spiritual performance and reminds us that our value comes from whose image we bear. Whether we feel forgotten, buried beneath the mess of our lives, or too far gone to be found, God has not moved on from us. And when what was lost is found, heaven celebrates. We are invited not only to come out of hiding and remember our own value, but to join God's search for the people around us who feel forgotten, overlooked, or far from Him. Because lost doesn't mean worthless, and being found is always worth celebrating.
