The Wave Youth Center is a nonprofit organization that opened in December 2019 to support middle and high school-aged youth from across Sherburne County and neighboring communities. The mission of The Wave is to be a safe and welcoming place that meets the needs of the body, mind, and spirit of the youth in our community and create a space they truly feel like they are valued, validated and truly belong. The Wave is open to all youth, but does serve a large portion of marginalized students based on race, gender identity, sexuality, or socioeconomic status and provide a safe and inclusive space where they can thrive. They also offer evidence-based youth interventions in critical developmental areas, such as resilience and mental health, leadership skills, vocational and career exploration, life and social skills, and positive community involvement.
The Wave operates three main programs, including the Mentoring Program, the Good Neighbor & Community Stewardship Program, and the Mental Health & Well-Being program. The organization has an on-site mental health professional available one day a week to work with students in a group or small group setting.
