What did Jesus mean when He said, "I am the light of the world"?

I AM the Light of the World [03.31.2019]
What is the brightest light you have ever seen? How about the darkest? Compare and contrast how you felt in the presence of each.
Where is Jesus when he shares this I AM statement? What festival is going on, and what does it commemorate? (Don’t be afraid to Google it!)
Why would this timing be a significant backdrop for this statement from Jesus?
Read Isaiah 9:2-6; 42:6-7; 60:1-3. What stands out to you from these prophecies about Messiah? How do you think the crowd responded to Jesus making this claim?
Let’s make it personal- how has the light of Jesus overcome the darkness in your life? How have you been changed by the light of Christ?
Consider the response of the Pharisees in the passage you read earlier. Why do you think the Jews had such a hard time accepting Jesus’ claims about who He was?
In what ways do people, maybe even you, struggle to accept and respond to Jesus’ claim even today?
What can you do to accurately reflect the light of Christ this week?
On Sunday, Aaron encouraged us to 1) accept the light of Jesus into your life, 2) Identify the source of shadows or darkness in your life, and 3) commit to reflecting the light of Jesus in your world. On the back of this page or in your journal, write out one or two things you can do to put what we learned into action this week. Share what you committed to with someone and ask them to pray for you as you walk it out.
