Our heroes have boots on the ground on Loex Tolgalen, the stakes are rising ever higher, and Adhana Valcyne is alive. Leo tries to grapple with his mother's return. Phi and Adhana come to an understanding. Everyone else is in for one hell of a wake-up call. As the Valcynes grapple with heredity and history, they discover the sinister truths that make their homes on the Isle of the Dead - some of which hold sway over stories and families far removed from the Valcyne Dynasty.

As it turns out, Defiance was the least of our problems. With the Pirate Queen of Astraria gone for good, our heroes turn to the next challenge before them - the island of Loex Tolgalen, a place that holds terrible truths and even more terrible implications. After being rescued from their doomed trial and processing a lot of information, the Valcynes are back, baby, and arguably worse than ever. The situation in Voldhur grows even more dangerous. Phirora sets a boundary. Leoril tries to get the gang back together. Stranded in the middle of a city out for their blood with no plan, no backup, and no arcane focuses, the Valcynes get creative in a last-ditch effort to get out of Voldhur alive. There's a heist, there are ghosts, Leo gets a cool wizard hat, an old acquaintance returns, and everything that can go wrong, does.

40,000 years after our last installment, Kimryl and Kiva deal with the consequences of their actions. The Illiri Project has gotten out of hand, a plague is threatening the existence of entire societies, and the twin gods have lofty plans to restore their former glory, but they'll need help if they have any hope of succeeding. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on who you ask), that help is available on the far-flung island of Loex Tolgalen in the form of two young siblings named Elandor and Dorella Valcyne. Things rarely go as planned, however, and sometimes having a choice means having consequences - consequences like the birth of Astraria, and the death of so much more.

Sometimes, ambition can be a curse, and no one needs to learn this lesson more thoroughly than our heroes. Leoril's grand political plans blow up in everyone's faces.
