Yet again we find ourselves in the midst of terrible news in the world. Our service today was recorded before the shooting in Lewiston, Maine. No words or prayers we offer can ever change what has already happened. Yet, we know we do not gather and pray in vain. Our text tonight comes from the Apostle Paul, encouraging us to have hope in the face of death.

This week's Compline service was prepared and recorded before the horrifying events of October 7th in Israel. In a 1957 sermon, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." We pray for Christ, as the ultimate Love and Light, to intercede in the violence we see. Tonight's service focuses on His gracious and generous response when we come to Him just as we are. May our prayer tonight be, "Hosanna, save us. Come quickly, Jesus."
