In today's episode of compounding lifestyle, U.S. Mixed Markets Wrap, ETH Etherium Rockets, and Safemooners Beware. 

U.S. equity futures retreated and Asian stocks were mixed Tuesday following weakness among the technology giants on Wall Street. The dollar rallied. The poor manufacturing data, or more so scary data, will be the reason the stock market will move if we continue to get more reports like this and similar jobs report at the end of the week.

South Korean shares edged down while Hong Kong and Australia rose modestly. Trading will be limited with Japan and China among markets closed for holidays. U.S. contracts fell after the S&P 500 ended near session lows and shares such as Tesla Inc. and Amazon.com Inc. weighed on the Nasdaq 100. Ten-year Treasury yields dropped back to around 1.6% in U.S. trade amid comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell that the economic recovery is patchy.

How concerned should you be that the CAPE for the U.S. stock market is the highest in the world? I am referring to the cyclically adjusted price/earnings ratio (CAPE) made famous by Yale University finance professor (and Nobel laureate) Robert Shiller. It is conceptually similar to the typical P/E ratio, except that instead of using trailing 12-month earnings as the denominator the CAPE uses average inflation-adjusted earnings over the trailing 10 years. The CAPE currently stands at 36.6 for the S&P 500 SPX, +0.27%, according to Shiller’s latest calculations. That’s higher than 98% of monthly readings since 1881, and more than double the 140-year average, suggesting an extremely overvalued market.

The price of Ether is up about 12% over the past 24 hours and up around 350% year to date, according to CoinDesk. With Bitcoin, many people treat it like digital gold, arguing it's a store of value. Others use it to buy and sell things. But with Ethereum, developers use the blockchain for things like building applications and writing smart contracts. Lately, investors have been interested in non-fungible tokens (NFTs). At the risk of oversimplifying things, NFTs allow people to own unique, digital properties like digital art. And many NFTs are built on the Ethereum blockchain. Therefore, with the surging popularity of NFTs (among other things), Ethereum is being used more. Furthermore, Ether tokens make the Ethereum blockchain run, meaning they're in increasing demand. That demand is sending the price of Ether higher EBay says open to accepting cryptocurrencies in the future, exploring NFTs.

Traders considered Biden's address to a joint session of Congress late Wednesday, during which he declared that "America is back on the move again" after a pandemic that devastated the U.S. economy and killed hundreds of thousands of individuals across the country. The address also served as a forum for him to tout his $2 trillion infrastructure plan and officially unveil a $1.8 trillion proposal aimed at supporting children, students, and families, and which will be funded in part through tax increases on wealthy Americans. Total federal spending will reach $6 trillion in the coming years with Biden’s American Families Plan, the American Rescue Package, and plans to improve the country’s infrastructure. The $1.8 trillion American Families Plan includes federal funds targeted at low- and middle-income families, aid to students, and tax cuts. The annual CNBC Stock Draft was held on Thursday. In today's episode of compounding lifestyle, Biggest U.S. Banks Pile Into Cash, Securities, Mondays Earnings After Hours, and The Digital Dollar.

Doge 420; Enough said. 

The four largest U.S. banks gathered $919 billion in additional deposits last year, money that they either parked in cash or used to increase their holdings of securities, new data show. Their combined loan holdings fell 10% to $3.44 trillion. Trading assets and other securities increased 24% to $3.67 trillion. Cash surged by 56% to $1.65 trillion. The share of safe assets -- virtually risk-free investments such as cash, Treasuries, and securities effectively guaranteed by the U.S. government -- rose to 36.3% in the week ended April 7 from 35.6% the previous week. Total assets ticked up 2% to $21.25 trillion. The bulk of the increase was in cash, which rose 8% to $3.77 trillion

IBM — Shares of the computer hardware company ticked up 2.9% after IBM reported better-than-expected results for the first quarter. IBM posted earnings per share of $1.77 on revenue of $17.73 billion. Analysts polled by Refinitiv expected earnings per share of $1.63 on revenue of $17.35 billion.

United Airlines — United Airlines shares fell 1.8% after the company reported worse-than-expected first-quarter results. United lost $7.50 per share on revenue of $3.22 billion. Analysts surveyed by Refinitiv expected a loss per share of $7.08 on revenue of $3.26 billion.

Wall Street banks brace for digital dollars as the next big disruptive force. With the launch of a digital yuan last year, some fear that the edge China has ultimately could undermine the dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency. Though China said that is not its objective, a Bank of America report notes that issuing digital dollars would let the U.S. currency “remain highly competitive … relative to other currencies.”Central bank digital currency advocates, conversely, cite multiple advantages. Paramount among those reasons is giving unbanked people access to the financial system. Transfer payments, such as those provided by governments to people during the Covid-19 crisis, would be made faster and easier if that money could be deposited directly into digital wallets.

A digital dollar would resemble cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin or ethereum in some limited respects but differ in important ways.

Rather than be a tradable asset with wildly fluctuating prices and limited use, the central bank's digital currency would function more like dollars and have widespread acceptance. It also would be fully regulated and under a central authority.

In today's episode of compounding lifestyle, Stock futures mixed, Bitcoin Falls, Doge Dumps, and The Earning to Look For This Week.

U.S. stock index futures were mixed in early morning trading on Monday, after the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at record highs on Friday.

Coca-Cola, IBM, and United Airlines are among the names set to report earnings on Monday. On Tuesday, Apple is expected to unveil the latest versions of its iPad Pro, iPad mini, and AirPods during an online-only event. Tuesday will also include a slew of earnings from companies including Abbott Labs, AutoNation, Harley-Davidson, Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, Netflix, Philip Morris, Procter & Gamble, and Xerox. On Wednesday include Anthem, Halliburton, the Nasdaq, Verizon, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Equifax, Sleep Number, and Whirpool. Thursday also marks a big earnings day with over 40 companies set to report throughout the day, including Alaska Air, American Airlines, AT&T, Biogen, Blackstone Group, Quest Diagnostics, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Boston Beer, Intel, Skechers USA, Snap and World Wrestling Entertainment.

Bitcoin pulled back over the weekend after hitting an all-time high of $64,841 Wednesday morning, according to data from Coin Metrics. On Sunday evening the cryptocurrency traded at $55,805. Similar to all cryptocurrencies, dogecoin is a digital currency that can be bought and sold like an investment and spent like money.

Although each crypto is unique, it shares some similarities with its better-known peers — its code is based on the script for litecoin, for example. But it has a couple of key differences.

Unlike bitcoin, which has set 21 million as the finite amount of the digital currency, doge has 129 billion coins in circulation and will continue to make new blocks of coins available to mine each year. That's part of the reason one doge is currently valued at about three dimes. Also, keep an eye out on Safemoon Coin. Safemoon coin is a coin that is established by a company that wants to make an exchange/ wallet similar to Coinbase. I always keep my Crypto on an offsite wallet, make sure you can too.

The three main Wall Street indexes ended Friday higher for the day and  week, with the S&P 500 and the Dow breaking closing records, as  investors took strong economic data and bank earnings as signs of  momentum in the U.S. pandemic recovery.

The Coinbase purchases add to the 341,186 shares purchased on Thursday and 749,205 purchased on Wednesday.

When will Coinbase go public?

Coinbase will list on April 14. The precise timing of the list isn’t clear but Palantir Technologies Inc.’s direct listing in September saw its first trade after 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Where will it list?

Coinbase is set to go public on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “COIN” as a direct listing, meaning it isn’t raising any new money, as a company would under a traditional IPO.

Coinbase is the Nasdaq’s first major direct listing, with Spotify Slack Technologies and most recently Palantir Technologies all opting to directly list at the NYSE.

Valuations?

Nasdaq gave Coinbase a reference price of $250 a share on Wednesday evening, which values it at over $65 billion.

Some bulls are projecting a valuation at $100 billion or better, which would make it bigger than many U.S. exchanges, including ICE, Nasdaq, CME Group, and Cboe Global Markets

Is Coinbase the largest crypto exchange?

Coinbase is the second-largest crypto platform, but the largest in the U.S., by volume. The title of largest goes to Binance, which sees $47 billion in crypto trading volume in 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.com.

Disney's resilience throughout COVID-19 warrants significant optimism for the company moving forward. The studio will return to the big screen with several films from its Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel Studios. The catalysts for Disney look better than almost anyone right now.

People are talking about hotel stocks as a great buy. Disney owns hotels.

People are hyping sports and entertainment stocks. Disney owns ESPN and the greatest treasure trove of entertainment intellectual property on the planet.

People are talking about restaurants, travel stocks, cruise lines, and retail plays. Disney is involved in all four of these industries, as well.

In today's episode of compounding lifestyle, Stock futures open flat after S&P 500, Dow set record highs, and Q2 Earnings To Watch

Stock futures opened flat after a record-setting session on Wall Street, with the S&P 500 sailing further above the 4,000 level.

Both the blue-chip index and the Dow reached record intraday and closing highs on Monday, and all three major indexes including the Nasdaq jumped more than 1%. As the overnight session kicked off, contracts on the indexes steadied near these levels.

Traders took Monday as their first opportunity to react to the Labor Department's blowout March jobs report from Friday, which was reported during a market holiday. Other recent economic data was similarly strong: An index tracking U.S. service sector activity surged to an all-time high in March, the Institute for Supply Management said Monday. Traders at least temporarily set aside concerns over fast-rising inflation and interest rates, and the yield on the 10-year Treasury note steadied below 1.71%.
