Comprehensive Sex Ed with Christine Soyong Harley

Listen Later

In 2012, legislation in Wisconsin changed the way sex ed is taught in schools. Now the only human growth and development education is not required, and when it taught, instructors must stress abstinence.
Joining us to imagine how sex education could be better is head of SIECUS, Christine Soyong Harley. Throughout the hour, we cover how the burden and shame is unfairly held by people with vulvas, how consent can and should be taught to young children, and the how young people are impacted by the recent Dobbs decision.
Christine Soyong Harley is the President and CEO of SIECUS. That is Sexual Information and Education Council of the United States. The organization focuses on sex education as a vehicle for social change. They believe comprehensive sex ed can prevent child abuse and sexual violence. They work to advance education on consent and gender justice and affirmation of LGBTQ communities.
