Things we forgot to mention:

Moving expenses - totally forgot stuff like cleaning fees, lock changing fees, insurance, etc. ALL THOSE drive up moving costs. You can negotiate them down but yeah…

Regarding salaries - some teachers probably do make the Tokyo average salary or maybe even higher, esp those who work at legit international schools or universities. We just meant your standard ALT or Eikawa worker. Sorry for the confusion!!
