Caregiving is overwhelming. Mothers (and other caregivers) pour out endless hours of dedicated care and nurture while their needs are often buried. It is exhausting, and we can begin to fear breaking under the burden. Jesus’ resurrection breaks the chains of burden. His resurrection strength sustains us when we’re too weak to go on. His empty tomb is a gift that calls us to vocations of care. And best of all, He promises to carry our loads. Jesus alone can turn depletion into lasting joy.

Fractured relationships cause us such pain. Conflict, betrayal, and grief all feel so final. Mary assumed Jesus was gone and was stuck in that loss. We’re stuck seeing nothing but obstacles and despairing over broken bonds. We can’t even imagine healing and reconciliation. By grace, Jesus’ resurrection breaks down our barriers and divisions. Jesus reconciled us to God when we were enemies. His empty tomb frees us to love and heal. God calls us to see others as He does and to mend what’s torn with His strength.

Despair chains us to empty tombs, and fears, failures, or a chaotic world can steal our joy. We can easily become stuck in worries, fears, or grief. And that pain can convince us that all hope is gone. Jesus’ resurrection breaks the chains of despair and brings hope to life! Jesus’ empty tomb is our guarantee of hope. The Easter proclamation gives us confidence that outlasts our trials. He restores what’s lost. And that confidence calls us to shine hope in every part of our lives.

When Jesus’ dear friend Lazarus dies, Lazarus’s sister, Martha, is understandably heartbroken. But through her grief she believes that Jesus is the Messiah. On Easter, all of us face points of grief. But because of Easter, we are called to believe Jesus is the Messiah.

On the night of His betrayal, Jesus stoops to wash His disciples' feet, modeling servant-hearted love.
