In summer 2019, Ellen got a Tbi while biking home in Ottawa. She will be sharing her insight while dealing with ongoing PCS. Ellen will discuss her experiences such as going back to school, accepting her new reality, the importance of celebrating the small things, and how she redefined success. An Australian who finds himself on the other side of the planet, Stephen Gurr is a nutritionist at Premier Athletic Therapy & Sports Medicine in St. John's, NL, Canada. Jaclyn is a 23 year old who, in 2019, received multiple concussions in a 5 month span ending her college soccer career and leading her to PCS. She will be sharing her experience on finishing college despite these circumstances, dealing with loss of identity, the importance of finding the right health care professional, as well as the variety of treatments she underwent to get her life back. Alan is a former professional boxer that now coaches. For years he has told his wife that something still wasn’t right in his head. When his wife and children noticed him becoming more angry, confused, depressed, and showing inappropriate behaviors they took him to the doctor. After numerous doctors, CTs and MRIs he was diagnosed with Dementia Pujulistica and Probable CTE at John Hopkins in 2017. Since then Alan has started writing poems about his experience and continues to fight for his life, beating odds at every turn. With the help of his incredible wife he has sought more than 30 various treatments and is back to lifting weights and working out 3-4 times a week.

Dr. Frances Skinner is a Senior Scientist of Computational Neuroscience at the Krembil Brain Institute's Krembil Research Institute. My first question, of course, was 'what is computational neuroscience?' I had seen a tweet from Krembil Brain Institute in which Dr. Skinner was tagged or to which she replied, but either way when I saw the title Computational Neuroscientist I had to find out more! Along with some deciphering as to what computational neuroscience entails, we also discuss the complexity of the brain and how seemingly unrelated information could be so important in finding some help for brain injury and concussion!
