The resolution of the Vanarama National League season brought joy for some but, at the other end of the spectrum, York City were the big losers.

When the National League North season was paused due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the Minstermen were top. Two points clear of King's Lynn Town, a return to Step One was in their hands.

Yet thanks to the points-per-game method used to decide final placings, Steve Watson's side slipped to second. No title and no guarantee of automatic promotion with Kings Lynn scooping top spot.

In the latest episode of Conference Call from Football Whispers, we enlisted the help of York City media officer Dan Simmonite to take the temperature of everything at Bootham Crescent.

This should have been an exciting time. With the York Community Stadium opening ahead of the 2020/21 season, the Minstermen were hoping to kick-off as a National League side in their new home.

Hosts Tom Bodell and Will Evans also round up the latest National League news – including some intriguing transfer deals – in the latest episode of Conference Call.

The wait is over: The Vanarama National League has been decided on a points-per-game basis, the playoffs will go ahead and Conference Call is here to unpack it all.

It's elation for Barrow who, after 48 years outside of the EFL, will return as National League champions. In the National League North, Kings Lynn Town pip York City who had been top when the season was curtailed. While in the National League South, Wealdstone are confirmed as champions.

Victorious Stones boss Dean Brennan was a guest on this week's show and talked about an anxious wait for confirmation, the celebrations which followed and planning for next season.

We try to get the bottom of everything in that latest episode of Conference Call, in association with Vanarama.
