John Paul II, in Ecclesia de Eucharistia, n. 9, wrote: “The Eucharist, as Christ's saving presence in the community of the faithful and its spiritual food, is the most precious possession which the Church can have in her journey through history.” On the night before His passion, Christ wished to give a legacy to His loved ones. Drawing on His omnipotence and infinite wisdom, He elected to leave to His bride, the Church, an inheritance that would be nothing less than Himself, the Victim for our souls, to be offered up continually to the Father for our redemption.
