Have you ever carried guilt around and it just feels like a huge weight on your soul? Maybe you know in your mind that you have been forgiven by God but it sure doesn’t feel like it? One of the ways to be free from that weight and feeling is to confess your sins to other believers. This is what we will learn from James 5:16 this Sunday as it declares, “Confess your sins one to another and you will be healed.” Our Catholic friends think that only a priest can give absolution for one’s sins whereas we believe we are to listen and not make declarations about the eternal state of somebody. Instead, we can be the voice of God in a person’s life and remind those heavy laden in guilt, “According to God’s Word, He says, ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.'” (1 John 1:9) This reminder by a human voice can be life-giving and healing!
