Church Life must be deeply rooted in the Confession of Jesus Christ. There are three layers of this mystery (v. 16) 1. Person -- "manifested in the flesh" 2. Work -- "vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, taken up in glory" 3. Mission -- "proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world" We must proclaim Christ in us, the hope of glory.

As in verse 1, it appears that this beast was by nature subtle. This cunning behavior or shrewdness is demonstrated by being skilled in deception. It appears that this beast is able to deceive its pray by some sort of deception, either in camouflage, stealth, or perhaps in appearing non-aggressive and benign for we see no dread or fear in the heart of Adam or Eve.
