Another lie that the church unintentionally (I hope!) teaches is that sharing the Gospel only happens outside the home. But is that what the Bible actually says? Is sharing the Gospel with your children not actually sharing the Gospel? In this episode we discuss what the Bible really says.

Episode 3: You Can Proclaim the Gospel, too!

Lie 1: You can only be a good Christian if you are outside your home

• Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
• Deuteronomy 6:6-9 – “Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it, that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long. Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
• Matthew 5:17 – “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Hebrews 10:10; Acts 10)

Lie 2: Sharing the gospel with your kids is not actually sharing the gospel

• Deuteronomy 6 and Proverbs 22:6
• 1 Timothy 3

Questions to ask yourself:

• Do you notice any defensiveness rising in you toward the lies we discussed today? What might that reveal about an inner conflict you’re carrying? (Often, defensiveness signals a battle within ourselves more than it does a problem with the idea itself. Where might God be inviting you to find peace and confidence in His truth rather than the false truth of this world?)
• Which Scripture from today’s teaching is God prompting you to study more deeply? How might understanding His Word more fully shift the way you live and believe?
• Do I ever unintentionally compartmentalize my faith? Are there places in my life where I hesitate to share the gospel or live openly for Christ?
• What counterfeit structures have you accepted as true? Where in Scripture does God design and give us structures? Spend time in those parts of scripture to learn God’s heart and His desires for you.
• What counterfeit structures about womanhood might I have accepted without really examining them? Where does Scripture actually speak to God’s design for our roles and relationships? Spend some time in those passages asking God to show you His heart.
