Blaine also reveals his former life as a 'skippy', or an appraiser who may not have fully understood everything that could, and should, be done to make an appraisal credible and reliable. Blaine talks about how we all start out somewhat the same in that regard and how most appraisers are mentored in a very similar way. It wasn't until Blaine went out on his own and was responsible for training other appraisers that he started to realize just how much he still had to learn.

Blaine suggests a little compassion toward the 'skippy' crowd as most of them simply suffer from unconscious incompetence and just don't know what they don't know. With a little compassion and some willingness to help, many skippies could be reformed and trained into becoming good appraisers.
