When we see the truth about ourselves, it causes us to abhor what we see. James says that looking at God’s truth is like looking in the mirror. He uses this analogy because we use a mirror multiple times a day in order to make appropriate adjustments. Only if we continually face the ugliness of ourselves that we see in the mirror can we live within the appropriate grace God has for us.
