Confused & If You See Something Say Something

Listen Later

Have you heard of the "bystander effect?" What about the stoic idea of "radical candor?"

In this episode we discuss the idea of Radical Candor from stoic philosophy, what being radically candid means for our more personal relationships and how this idea shapes how we communicate with our partners, our friends, and our colleagues.

For the news, we cover:

- Facebook's new ambitions to build a "metaverse."

- Reiner Fuellmich, a German lawyer specialising in corporate fraud, has vowed to put world leaders and leading scientists in the dock for supposedly engineering a fake pandemic. He’s become the great hope of the global coronavirus conspiracy scene.

- A Singaporean TikToker's viral video and group chat that acted as a "yelp review" for men on dating apps in the city, and a community to warn other girls of potentially dangerous men. We get into discussing the pros and cons of something like this existing, and our own dating app experiences in Amsterdam (as well as our own group chat dedicated to warning friends and friends of friends about men we've encountered in the city to stay away from).

Trigger warning: sexual assault.

- A woman on a train near Philadelphia was raped publicly and no one did anything or called the police. We dive into the "bystander effect," a personal experience where we've experienced this effect, and perhaps something you can do to make sure you are never a "bystander."

As always, we'd love to hear your thoughts! [email protected]
