The Bourne and Sagamore bridges are nearly 90 years old and need a serious overhaul. Approximately 5 million visitors travel over these bridges annually to visit Cape Cod and they are vital to the Cape’s economy. A study done in 2019 outlines the need for major reconstruction as these bridges are functionally obsolete. Funding for the project is estimated at $3.98 billion for two new bridges and Congressman Lynch feels the price tag is part of the reason why the request has been denied and stated it could be built closer to half that amount.
