FORGIVING SELF - Matthew 18:21-35
> Why should I forgive myself? Is that even Biblical?
>> Unforgiveness always results in being delivered to the torturers where we are tormented.”
>>> From ‘The Freedom Factor’ - Dr. Bruce Wilkinson
Would you say you experience torment in your life?
> #1 Lie: “I don’t need to forgive myself because it’s just me; I’m not hurting anyone else.”
>> TRUTH: If you done wrong to others or yourself, you do need to forgive yourself (refer back to Matthew 18 parable).
> #2 Lie: “I did the crime, it’s up to me to do the time.”
>> TRUTH: You could never suffer enough to cover your sin which means that your self-inflicted suffering is useless. (Isaiah 53:5-6)
> #3 Lie: “What I did happened so long ago there is no need to forgive myself.”
>> TRUTH: Time does not and cannot heal unforgiveness (Matt.18:34-35)
> #4 Lie: I’m worthless. I don’t deserve to be forgiven.
>> TRUTH: Forgiveness is for everyone. You are not the first and only exception (Rom. 8:29)
> #5 Lie: If I forgive myself, I’m just going to do it again, because forgiving myself may make me forget and lose control again.
>> TRUTH: Forgiving yourself will not weaken you or make you susceptible to making the same mistake again. Forgiveness sets you up to freely tackle your challenges.
