The Brockway Borough Council adopted a resolution to help guide public gatherings and demonstrations in the borough.

The new resolution aims to help the borough plan for events like demonstrations and rallies while still protecting the rights of its citizens. People wishing to hold a rally must contact the borough office during regular business hours ahead of an event. The borough is asking that the contact happens at least five days before the event.

Solicitor Ross Ferraro explained that the resolution will help keep the borough prepared, but the community still has the right to assemble.

A new program coming to our local DuBois Middle School that could quite literally save lives... It's called Hope Squad, empowering kids to talk to each other and identify the signs that someone is considering suicide, and teaching them to speak up when they know someone needs some help.

Senator Jay Costa, serving Allegheny County, says Gov. Wolf's proposed budget has steps in the right direction, including more school funding and higher wages for the lowest earners.

Senator Cris Dush, serving our area, gave his thoughts after watching Gov. Tom Wolf's budget address. He says, firstly, he does not agree with how the address was given virtually without giving a chance for the House and Senate to discuss together, calling it a "performance".

Senator Dush also acknowledges that many business owners will fall into the category of making $85,000 or more, meaning they will not get tax cuts and will in fact see a 46 percent increase for personal income taxes if they are considered high earners. Dush says a tax increase of that much would destroy small businesses at a time when they are already struggling.

Shea McKinney of Penfield, a 4 year cancer survivor at just 11 years old recently donated 12 inches of her hair to help children like herself. Her mother, Misty McKinney, said in December, Shea made the decision to cut her hair and donate it to "wigs for kids" making a wig for a little girl like her who lost her her. She chose Wigs for kids because they don't charge the recipient anything for their hair, which made Shea very happy.
