About a week about the Brockway Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Committee decided to cancel the Tour de Brockway bike race for this year, they reportedly have now also cancelled the parade.

However, the situation might not be entirely hopeless for people who want to celebrate the 4th of July in Brockway. Certain parts of the annual tradition could remain, with some adjustments for safety.

According to their website, the committee is still preparing for this year's celebration and will make any decisions about the Brockway Old-Fashioned 4th of July events on or before June 1.

Cheryl Shenkle, coordinator of Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Jefferson County, talks about how important planning and preparation can be when starting your first home garden.

Due to the current and predicted COVID-19 restrictions currently placed on residents of Pennsylvania by Governor Tom Wolf, the DuBois Fire Department Parade and Community Days Committee is deeply saddened to announce that the 2020 DuBois Community Days and its related events, scheduled for June 12 and 13, have been cancelled for this year.

In addition to their online worship service, Treasure Lake Church is also offering a drive-through communion this Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m.

You're encouraged to join them in the upper parking lot of Treasure Lake Church, or on their website to livestream the communion service.

If you are planning on coming to the parking lot, please make sure to bring a smart phone to enjoy all aspects of the service.

Pre-packed communion portions will be handed out in the parking lot. Social distancing will be observed, and everyone is asked to remain inside their vehicles.

Graduation for DuBois Area High School has tentatively been scheduled for Friday, May 29, and we'll be broadcasting it on Sunny 106 so everyone can celebrate and enjoy the ceremony safely!

DuBois Area School District Superintendent Wendy Benton says they would attempt to hold a traditional ceremony if at all possible, but they need to plan for the very likely scenario that a typical graduation would draw too many people into one area, making it unsafe.

Instead, they will be prerecording the ceremony and allowing everyone to watch it on May 29 from their own vehicles while gathered in a large parking lot.

It will still include many of the parts of graduation that the Class of 2020 said was important to them... such as walking across the field or stage to receive their diploma.

DuBois Central Catholic School is hoping to hold a traditional graduation, with perhaps a couple of adjustments for social distancing.

DCC President Gretchen Caruso says, because their Class of 2020 has just 30 students, a traditional ceremony is more feasible for them than it would be for other larger school systems.

However, this ceremony would not be open to the public and would be limited to just students and their immediate family.

Graduation weekend is tentatively scheduled for June 6 and 7, with Baccalaureate Mass that Saturday and the graduation ceremony on Sunday.
