The new law offers a free college education for a Pennsylvania National Guard member as well as their spouse and children in exchange for a six-year reenlistment.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are in agreement about the new law, which is the first of its kind in the country.

The Brockway School Board decided on three new teachers for the upcoming school year, filling in two resignations and a retirement. Carly Walloch will come to Brockway as a mathematics teacher, Robert Bateman will be the new industrial arts teacher, and Bret Zimmerman will take over a social studies position.

The district also accepted the resignation of longtime history teacher Rachel Chamberlain.  Chamberlain found a job at another district closer to her home.  Board-member Jacqueline Manno said that she was sorry to see Chamberlain go.

Reflecting the priorities and continued work of the House Republican Caucus, the 2019-20 General Appropriations bill passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support.

House Bill 790 features no new taxes, no tax increases and no additional fees, continuing a multi-year effort that has resulted in increased revenues for the Commonwealth.

The House budget proposal focuses on several key priorities to stand up for Pennsylvania taxpayers and protect their hard-earned money today and in the future. At the top of the agenda is saving money and growing the state’s Rainy Day Fund. Thanks to smart budgeting the proposed budget includes a deposit of more than $250 million into the state’s primary “savings account.”

Kids in DuBois are busy this week with the first ever STAR Arts Day Camp at the Reitz Theater!

Students are attending four different arts-themed classes each day, including visual arts, dance, theater and music.

This Saturday at 1, there’s a special showcase performance for their families.

Although all of the spots are filled for this year, the Reitz Theater of CRI is hoping to have the day camp again next summer.

A new bill in the House of Representatives is aiming to find hidden money or money that wasn’t returned to the state.

Representative Cris Dush, a Republican for Jefferson and Indiana Counties, says it started more than four years ago when he and another representative were looking through the budget.

He says they found thousands of line items of unspent money, while other necessary bills for health and human services were going unpaid during the budget impasse.

The bill would create stricter rules about how money could be carried over year-to-year and would require departments to give reasons for why they are holding onto money for projects.

House Bill 920 is currently in the House of Representatives.

It would still have to be passed by the Senate and signed by the Governor to become law.
