Brockway's own Dominique Martino will be singing the National Anthem at PNC Park!

She'll be singing right before the Pirates home game against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday, April 20. First pitch is at 4:05 p.m.

She says she's a little nervous about singing in front of such a large crowd and in front of some of her favorite professional athletes. However, she knows that it's an important and meaningful job.

Brockway High School added 17 new members to its National Honors Society Wednesday night.Brockway's NHS has been around since 1985.  NHS chooses students based on four characteristics: character, scholarship, leadership, and service. 

Students have to have an A average to be considered for NHS, and of those eligible, a committee of teachers chooses those who best exemplify the core characteristics.  The students write an essay to explain their leadership, character, and service to the committee.

NHS Faculty Advisor Tim Chelednik took a moment to thank the seniors and other NHS members for the SIDS Awareness Walk they organized in Brockway.  The walk raised over $3000 to donate to Penn Highlands Hospital.

NHS President Austin Bullers explained that being a part of organizations like NHS is good for students.

A new full-time police secretary and laborer will be hired in Brookville, pending each candidate’s acceptance.

They follow the resignation of Jennifer Dolan and the retirement of James Rowan. Also approved was the hiring of Dylan Donohue as a part-time police officer. Donohue also works as a police officer in Ridgway.

As part of a continued beautification effort, Council also approved sending out letters to Main Street property owners inviting them to voluntarily place new planters in front of their businesses. The local garden club has offered to assist and maintain the planters. It’s all in an effort to replace the numerous trees that used to line Main St. but have since died.
