Definition of Greed: The desire for money more than God.

Symbolized by the frog and the color yellow.

It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Violates the greatest commandment in putting money over God and neighbor.

Arguably the deadliest of all the deadly sins.

What is your relationship with money? Discuss:

Power - Nobody can push me around, I will always have control of my life and be strong.

Happiness - I'll be happiest with copious amounts of money. Not having money causes all the problems in my life. Money will solve all my problems.

Security - My safety depends on having money. The more money I have, the safer I am/my family is.

Freedom - Financial independence is all that matters. Once I attain this, I can work for myself, my life will be complete, and I'll never have another worry.

Love - Having money makes relationships so much easier. If I have lots of money, people will love me more.

Respect - I worked hard and earned all that money, therefore, I should be respected!

Now, what does money mean to God and the Christ followers?  It's His. We manage it by giving, saving and spending.  Read Luke 12:16-21 and discuss.

The message began with the image of the Sistine Chapel. Do you sense yourself pulling away from God, or at times indifferent? How does it strike you that God seems to be straining toward us in this painting, and throughout the stories of the Bible?

Gideon's story is told in Judges 6-8.

Verses 1-6 finds the people in sin and hard times. How has God used difficult circumstances or mistakes we've made to draw us closer?

Verses 7-12 God calls to Gideon, and calls him "Mighty Warrior" while he's in hiding. How or what have you been hiding from God? God sees the real you, a mighty warrior. How do you see yourself?

Verses 13- 24 God reveals Himself to Gideon, and Gideon is afraid. Have you looked upon God and felt fear, or found empowerment?

Verses 25-32 we find Gideon cleaning house and kicking out false gods. Do you need to do any house cleaning before God sends you on your mission?

Verses 33-40 is the famous fleece passage. God is incredibly patient, and gracious, to Gideon. How is God being patient with you, waiting for your obedience?

Chapter 7 tells the battle story. How will you trust in God that the battle's already been won?

The message started with an explanation of the "D.T.R." Have you ever had a DTR with someone that you'd share with the Group? More importantly, have you had the DTR with Jesus? If not, maybe today is the day.  Discuss!

Read Luke 10:38-42

Are you aware of the stereotypes about being a "Martha" or a "Mary." If so, discuss. Is this a fair stereotype to use with people? Have you been labeled a Martha or a Mary?

This is really a story about bucking the cultural norm of discipleship and sitting at the feet of Jesus- the DTR: Dust of The Rabbi. This is also about being "distracted, worried and upset." What is distracting you from being with Jesus? What is worrying you and sapping your faith? What is upsetting you and pushing out the fruits of the Spirit? How can you choose the better thing that won't be taken away, to simply sit in the Dust of The Rabbi?
